Prepare the activity
Start with the character already on the page. Ask your child to choose its name and where it is going. Offer two suggestions if an open question feels too big, while keeping their own answer welcome.
Try it together
Add one ordinary problem: the animal has lost a leaf, cannot find a friend, or needs a dry place in the rain. Ask what happens next. Keep the story playful and clearly imagined rather than presenting invented behavior as animal facts.
Keep it flexible
Finish with one sentence that resolves the problem. You can write your child's exact words beneath the picture on separate paper. Read them back and let the child decide whether the story needs another sentence.
Choose a page for your next session
You can use your child’s own drawing or a coloring book you already own. For a baby-animal theme, explore the actual inside-page previews of our Baby Animals paperback. The English edition is designed for ages 4–8 and combines 40 baby animals with short animal facts. Choose supplies and supervision to suit your child.
