Animal Coloring Ideas for Grandparents and Grandchildren

A shared animal page can give grandparents and children an easy starting point for conversation.

Prepare the activity

Offer separate pages or give each person plain paper. Ask the child which animal they would like to start with. A grandparent can draw or color their own picture without correcting the child's design.

Try it together

Try a memory question linked to the page: have you ever seen a similar animal, visited a farm, or owned a pet? Keep the story short and allow the child to interrupt with questions or their own imagined story.

Keep it flexible

When you finish, write a small note on the back, such as who colored together and the date. Ask before writing on the front. The page can become a record of the visit rather than a picture judged for neatness.

Choose a page for your next session

You can use your child’s own drawing or a coloring book you already own. For a baby-animal theme, explore the actual inside-page previews of our Baby Animals paperback. The English edition is designed for ages 4–8 and combines 40 baby animals with short animal facts. Choose supplies and supervision to suit your child.
